Happy Friday! Here’s a whole bunch of photos from the Monterey trip. Eggs Benedict from Holly’s Lighthouse Cafe, a long drive home, a cold rainy day at the aquarium, a seagull and a starfish, Monterey Fisherman’s Warf and bread at the Old Fisherman’s Grotto.

I’ve been scanning my negatives for some time now and have been getting a little bothered by the quality. Do you guys scan your own negatives? Or do you have a lab scan them for you? I’ve been doing a lot of research and there seems to be a huge difference (obviously) between lab scans and home scans. Just wondering to myself if I should pay the money to have my negatives scanned instead of doing them myself. Seems like it makes a huge difference.

It’s raining here today and I have no plans for the weekend, except to sleep and maybe watch a movie. Maybe “The Rite”.

Liking this song today: Twin Shadow – Castles In The Snow

Have a good weekend!

I love how Ron is coordinating with the table cloth.

You were able to get some incredible shots, even through the gloom. They don’t need sun up there to make it beautiful.

lovely photos. i’ve never been to monterey, but I hear it’s beautiful. would love to go one day!

I also scan negatives at home, not all the time though. I also notice the huge difference between lab vs. home scanners. which one do you use? I just have an old epson scanner, which does its job, but I can’t ever seem to get it to scan the way I want. I sometimes have to fix the color temperature to get rid of unwanted bluish tones…

    have a good weekend!

ashley- haha he does look like the table cloth! thanks, have a good weekend : )

h- thanks : ) i use a canoscan 8800f but heard the epson v500 is good. i’ll probably end up having the lab scan some rolls again to see if there’s a difference.

    have a good weekend!

Great depth of field in these!
In the US I got the lab (Walgreens or CVS) to process + scan the picture. Here in Denmark I do it at the school. I actually like the US scan better since the negative scanner at the school is pretty bad.
I’ve been thinking about getting my own scanner for quite a while now, which one do you have?

I scan my own 70% of the time.. I had an Epson V350. It had an auto film feeder which was sweet, but it died. With the warranty, I exchanged it for a V300 which I thought was a bit of a downgrade at the time but it actually works pretty well at good speed. I get a little sloppy on dust removals though..

These are beautiful photos, especially the first with the blue tablecloth and the 5th. The landscape is amazing, it looks like folded. Where is it?

first, as always, amazing photos. i love the blues and yellows in the first few. beautiful. and 4 & 5 are positively dreamy landscapes.

second, i have never scanned my own (don’t have the means to do so) so i don’t know how to compare, i have always had a lab develop than scan to CD for me. i find yours look amazing so i wouldn’t worry, though maybe do a side by side comparison of one roll or one shot to see the difference?
