Thanks for all the comments on the last post and for sharing how you scan your negatives with me. I’m going to shoot an engagement this coming weekend with some film and send it out to be scanned. That’ll be the real test! I’m just really hoping for good weather because right now, the reports are calling for rain on the day of the shoot.

These are the last of the Monterey photos. I look really miniature in the first photo, but like how the colors came out. I used Fuji 800z here (because of how extremely overcast it was) and still had a lot of underexposed shots. Sadface. The top photos were taken at the Carmel Mission, which blew my mind. Such an beautiful place!

Cliff photos were taken in Monterey. We stopped on the side of the road the day we drove home and it was sunny and beautiful out. I found a little rocky cliff with scattered little patches of yellow flowers. We took a few photos and I noticed that on another cliff parallel to the one I was standing on, a couple was getting engaged. The guy bent down on one knee, this is how I knew : ). I saw them walking back to their car and asked if they wanted me to take a photo and email it to them. Felt a bit like a stalker but figured they might want something to document the day.

Monterey Bay Pier is at the bottom. There were otters floating around on the ocean and some sea lions barking on planks that morning. You could see the fog rolling in and over the low hills in the background.

Happy Friday! Here’s a whole bunch of photos from the Monterey trip. Eggs Benedict from Holly’s Lighthouse Cafe, a long drive home, a cold rainy day at the aquarium, a seagull and a starfish, Monterey Fisherman’s Warf and bread at the Old Fisherman’s Grotto.

I’ve been scanning my negatives for some time now and have been getting a little bothered by the quality. Do you guys scan your own negatives? Or do you have a lab scan them for you? I’ve been doing a lot of research and there seems to be a huge difference (obviously) between lab scans and home scans. Just wondering to myself if I should pay the money to have my negatives scanned instead of doing them myself. Seems like it makes a huge difference.

It’s raining here today and I have no plans for the weekend, except to sleep and maybe watch a movie. Maybe “The Rite”.

Liking this song today: Twin Shadow – Castles In The Snow

Have a good weekend!

I got my film developed today, the lab did 4 rolls in an hour and a 1/2! I was so excited to get them on the same day I turned it all in.

These are from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. That little cyclone in the second photo (diptych) are little anchovies. I spent a good 30 minutes just staring at them follow each other in circles. You can really spend your days here just staring into fish tanks.

We watched the otters get fed- they float on their backs and eat fish from their bellies! We also sat and watched a ‘kelp feeding’, where a guy in an Oneil wetsuit, scuba dives down into the kelp garden depths and feeds the sealife. I didn’t want to leave but realized we were there for 4 hours and needed to eat dinner.

I have a lot more photos to share, which i’ll get up soon. Have a great Wednesday.

A few Instax photos from the trip

Hi, I just got back from a little road trip. Ron was out in Nashville for work on Valentine’s Day, so we took off a few days and drove up to Monterey to celebrate a little late. I had no idea what to expect since i’ve never been there before. I must say, I feel more inspired than i’ve been in a long time! The drive from Monterey to Big Sur (on the California 1) is indescribable. It stormed on the days we were there, including the day we drove around the cliffs to Big Sur, but it was beautiful. I think the rain made our trip to the forest just a little more magical.

I’m dropping off a few rolls of film tomorrow, so hopefully i’ll have more photos to share soon. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I couldn’t leave without sharing this Decemberists song (it’s one of my all-time favorites): California one – The Decemberists

I feel like it’s been a really long time since the last update. This past weekend, I took my camera out to test a roll and ended up wasting the whole thing. I guess I loaded it wrong and then proceeded to open….the back? I’m not quite sure why I did that, but I did. Drove over to Samy’s Camera and picked up three rolls, just in case I messed it up again, which I didn’t. Here’s the results. Just a bunch of random things around the apartment: oranges from yesterday and peonies from Ron. He was in Nashville for Valentine’s Day, so I just sat around in pajamas, eating oranges, listening to music and watching romantic comedies. How was your Valentine’s Day?

Sorry I haven’t been updating much. After this weekend, i’ll have a lot more! Promise.

Hi! These are from last week when we went to The Getty Museum. It was a gray day and a lot of my photos were underexposed, so these are the only ones that came out.

Looking forward to relaxing tomorrow. Was trying to get to the Rose Bowl Flea Market on Sunday but forgot we’re doing a little cookout at my in-laws place.

I’m gonna shoot some medium format film tomorrow, so i’ll definitely have some photos next week to share. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
Go On With The Gong – White Horses In Technicolor

Went to the Los Angeles Zoo for the first time, ever. They were having a special “Snow Day”, with snow leopards, black bears and penguins. Had a nice day just hanging out and staring at animals. It was pretty warm, in the high 70′s which was also a PLUS.

I probably won’t be updating too much this week. I have a lot of things going on and on top of that, I didn’t get many photos from this roll of. Most were overexposed and not in focus. Still trying to learn this camera…it’s taking ridiculously long to get the hang of for some reason.

Anyway, hope everyone had a good Monday!

Dug up these photos from 2007, when we still lived in Hawai’i. Going through old photos are a mix of emotions. First you laugh at all the crazy things you forgot you did, then you wonder how in the world time passed so quickly! It’s a nice little reminder (for me), to enjoy every little moment. I’ll probably be looking at 2011 photos, 10 years from now, wishing I could time travel back.

: ) Happy Thursday, by the way! One more day till Saturday.
