Archive for February, 2010

Spent most of the day on the computer, watching live feed on the Tsunami that was suppose to hit Hawaii. My parents called me to let me hear the civil defense sirens, and to let me know that everything was okay and there was nothing to worry about. I worry A LOT.

Things & Such
————-
-Seinfeld reruns.
-Curry Udon.
-Watching the news. My heart goes out to everyone in Chile. Earthquakes are incredibly terrifying and sad.
-Writing letters.
-Mitsuwa Market for Shabu Shabu ingredients and other goodies.
-Stocked up on ramen, udon and yakisoba.
-Chocolate cookies. I really wanted a Choco Pie but that would’ve been going too far!
-Bought pancake mix for tomorrow morning.
-Rainy nights.
-Shabu Shabu + watching Joe Torre and Sandy Koufax, speak at the Nokia Theater.
-Hot bubble baths and reading a good book over again.

Hope tomorrow is sunny. Have a good one!

Just posted one photo today, mainly because this one didn’t belong with any of the others. These little withering flowers were part of my Valentines Day bouquet. I really should get rid of old flowers that sit around and wilt, but somehow I like looking at them and remembering the day they were given. I hope that doesn’t make me an emotional pack rat?!

Anyway, not sure what this weekend will bring. I have no concrete plans. Only a few up-in-the air ideas like, CHOPPING MY HAIR OFF! But that has been an ongoing idea so who really knows when that will happen.

-A song that makes me feel calm.
-Guacamole w/ a little too much onion (does that look right to you?)
-IT’S ALMOST FRIDAY! What are you doing this weekend??
-Curry with vegetables
-Tulips
-And a fortune from a cookie. Now now, wouldn’t that be nice?
-Cambria wine from Santa Maria Valley. (came to this winery a while back)

Have a fun weekend, friends : )

This top is one of my favorite tops. I picked it up from some thrift store when my sister was visiting and wear it all the time. Too many plaid tops you say?!? NEVER!

Today:
——-
-Making Guacamole (Thanks, Lauren)
-Loving this ring
-Thinking about buying this book
-Tompopo | I couldn’t find a trailer with subtitles, sorry. I LOVE RAMEN AND UDON + love this movie.
-Looking for a battery for my Dad’s Nikon Zoom Touch 600. He gave it to me when we were in Hawaii and I still haven’t found a battery yet. He told me “the battery looks like a mini scuba tank”. That made me laugh a little. I should make an effort to go out and look for it.

I was hoping to put up a post with a few photos last night, but ended up getting food poisoning. Finally starting to feel a little better as the day progresses, but still feel week.

Things that are going through my head today:
————————————-
-Speeding my own recovery
-Old mixes
-Pomelo (Jabon) fruit. (Photos above)
-My hair stylist has moved to Helmet Salon in West Hollywood. I got an email saying that she’s giving $15.00 off any cut, up until May 1st. Most of her cuts + styling are about $55.00 normally. If you’re interested in some discounted prices, let me know and I can fwd you the email. She’s really good.
-I’m really thinking of chopping my hair above my shoulders. Mainly because short hair is easier to maintain. I keep faving short-haired photos on flickr. Here are some of my favorites: here, here, here, here, here.
-Looking for a good recipe for Guacamole.
-Trying to finish a Holga roll that i’ve had since July. Used Velvia 50 and have to head down to Hollywood to get it processed. Last time I dropped off a roll at the lab down the street, they ended up having to send it out. I wonder if there is an easier alternative?? Maybe mailing it would just be easier.
-Really really wishing spring was here. Phil the groundhog says, “6 more weeks!”.
-This song: Bliss-Kissing

Ended up checking out the LA Farmers Market (next to The Grove) down on Fairfax. I was searching for some Farmers Markets that were open a little later than usual and this one showed that it was open till 9 on weekdays, 8 on Saturdays and 7 on Sundays! Picked up some veggies for a stew I wanted to make, and drooled over chocolate bread and fresh peanut butter! Mmm.

They had a little sticker store there which reminded me of when I was a little girl. My friend Shannon and I would send handwritten letters to each other and throw in a bunch of stickers and erasers as an added bonus. I thought it would be cute to buy a few squares of sparkly unicorns + calico cats and send them her way, via snail mail. There was also a cute little antique shop that carried a bunch of old posters and figurines. They had a box of jumping beans that I wanted to buy (not sure what i’d do with them?) but it was $49, which was a little too expensive.

After the Farmers Market, we went to Mels Drive-in. They have a bunch of Jukeboxes placed on most of the booth tables, and you pay a quarter to listen to an oldie. Whenever we’re here, we use up a bunch of quarters and pretend we’ve transported back to the 50′s or 60′s.

Here are a few songs we played tonight: Jackie Wilson- Lonely Teardrops, Otis Redding-Try A Little Tenderness + Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay, The Temptations- Aint Too Proud To Beg + Just My Imagination, Michael Jackson- You Are Not Alone and Marvin Gaye-Inner City Blues. I really love David Ruffin in this one: I Wish It Would Rain.

Before I go to sleep, I wanted to share a little audio piece that I found on a podcast: BREAK UP (Click on Full Episode)

I’m sure many people can relate to it.

Goodnight, world.

Ate at Europane today for lunch. We had an open face egg sandwich and a turkey sandwich, then I picked up 2 raspberry Macaroons and 2 espresso ones. They were really good, I stashed them in my fridge and have been nibbling on them all day.

It’s raining in LA again. I was really hoping for a spring-like weekend out and about, but will have to settle for some light rain and semi-sunny skies.

Things I was hoping the weekend would bring:
- Los Angeles Zoo
-Laundry
-Cooking something new (not sure what)
-Finishing up a little work
-Cleaning
-Possibly the batting cage (for Ron of course)

Also, developed that roll of film I was telling you about. The Canon AE-1 roll. The negatives came back scratched and when I scan them in, most come out really blue. I’m not sure if it’s the film I’m using? I’ve never had this problem before. I guess i’ll just try again and see what happens. Hopefully the next roll comes out a little better. I might try another lab. What to do?

Listening to these songs tonight (From an old CD I found today) :

Minnie Ripperton/ Inside My Love
Milton Wright/ Magic Music
Leroy Hutson/ So Nice

I’ve been working from home a lot, lately. Stuck indoors, watching the sky turn different shades of blue, throughout the day. I’m almost done with a roll of film that was loaded into my canon ae-1 a long time ago. Come to think of it, I’m not really sure what’s on the beginning of the roll! I kinda like the suspense of not knowing what’s on it though.

We ate leftovers last night and I must admit, it felt good to just relax a little and watch some recorded episodes of 24. Tonight we’re going to dinner with my brother in-law, somewhere in some town that I do not know the name of. I’m kind of excited to get out of the house and smell that “fresh” Los Angeles air.

Oh before I forget, when we were at Mitsuwa the other night, I found some packs of Curry Udon. Decided to try it out today for lunch and it was pretty good. It comes with a little curry powder packet that you just throw in after the noodles boil a little. I like the packs where you boil the noodles separate from the sauce. You know which ones I’m talking about? I can’t seem to find this one certain Curry Udon that I had and loved so much before. I can’t even remember the name of the brand. Oh well.

On another note:
These photos were taken in Hawaii, up at a park near my parent’s house. You get a perfect view of Pearl Harbor and the incredible sunsets that happen pretty much everyday. I like looking back on these photos and remembering the day they were taken. We sat around at sunset up in the forrest taking photos of each other between the trees and ended the day at this park, with the sunset casting subtle pink tones onto our faces. It was the perfect day. Sigh..

Here’s an old song i’ve been listening to today: Katie Melua-Blame It On The Moon

Have a good afternoon and evening.

Made hamburger steak last night. Ground pork + ground beef, onions, salt and ground pepper, nutmeg, breadcrumbs (bread broken up with the crusts cutoff), egg, and milk. Sauce: Bulldog sauce + ketchup. I think we’re having the leftovers for dinner tonight. The patties came out bigger than I wanted, but overall, it was really good. Success : )

Thinking about my visit back home this past November. 3 weeks feel like 2 days when you haven’t seen your family in a year and a half.

These were taken at my parents house in Aiea.

Top – Bottom: 1) My mom’s old surfing trophies from back in the 70′s 2) Our back yard 3) My parent’s dog, lily. I used Fuji pro 400h for the first time w/ this roll and really like the results. I still have 3 more rolls of the stuff, stored in my fridge. Thinking about loading another roll and forcing myself out of the house. Winter is turning me into a hermit crab!

Time for dinner.
