Polaroid | Land
We drove out to Arizona on Saturday and stayed till Tuesday morning. I caught the plague from my mom’s surprise visit and was sick the whole trip. I almost contemplated staying back a day and resting, but forced myself to go anyway, which was the right choice. One of the best vacations I’ve ever had! We visited a meteor crater, seen volcanic fields out in the middle of nowhere, stopped at the Grand Canyon, and watched the solar eclipse in Sedona! I love driving out to the desert, there’s just something so peaceful and mysterious about it. I love the abandoned buildings and cars, and that borderline creepy feeling you get while walking around to photograph an object in some strange town. Wind tying your hair in knots around your face, while a thin, blond haired woman is staring at you from across the way, smoking a cigarette in a Janis Joplin t-shirt cut off at the sleeves. I’ve been trying to focus more on what I want a photograph to look like lately, rather than letting my mind wander off into paranoid-land.
I dropped off a few rolls tonight, so hopefully I’ll have more photos to show you soon.

Friday

Film // Rolleiflex
On Friday, we drove down to the pier and watched the sunset together. Ron finally got off of work a little early, so we decided to just leave and get some air. I also had a chance to test out my new light meter! I bought my Rolleiflex at the end of 2008, after winning some money (first and last time I’ve ever won!) in Vegas during a trade show. Ever since then, I’ve been telling myself I need to get a meter and finally did it! Pretty pleased with the results, I can’t wait to use it more.
Lately:
-Spending time on a ranch, meeting horses and enjoying a sunny, warm day.
-Taking Beta for a long walk on Sunday.
-Watching the sunset from the pier.
-Watching the waves crash and stir up sand and ocean weeds.
-Little breaks, in between work.

Whatever’s Left

Sometimes we’ll just drive and drive and pull into random parks or beaches to explore a little. Once in a while i’ll research places, but not knowing where we’re going or what to expect, just makes the little discoveries, all the better.
We were driving along the coast one day and pulled into a little side street where we found an empty lot and a few hiking trails. I forgot my shoes and only had my favorite flats again but hiked in them anyway (it wasn’t a long hike). We stood on the edge of a cliff and watched the flat ocean, sparkle. The trails were empty and it was nice climbing down through dappled light, watching the rabbits move in and out of the bushes.
I finally got around to making a new mix.

Happy Weekend

Grapefruit picking, collecting fallen Camellia flowers, and omelets in Pasadena. A fun weekend it was.
Have a good weekend!
